Creation of a house floor plan is usually done using professional software and most often than not, sitting in front of a desktop computer. However, seeing that most if not all forms of applications have begun appearing in mobile format, it's of no surprise that we can find several home designing apps in the online store. Floor Plan Creator is one of them.

Using Floor Plan Creator is fairly easy, provided you can get past the intrinsic difficulty of interacting via touchscreen. You begin laying out the basic outline of the rooms by placing and modifying basic shapes such as squares, L-shapes and T-shapes. If you're tired of the classic orthogonal look, you can also draw a desired shape. The app will approximate the design using straight lines (so the octagon is the roundest room you'll ever get in Floor Plan Creator. You can also use the draw option to draw walls. Once created, a shape can be manipulated like any vector based object, by pulling corners and dragging sides. The Levels functions lets you edit in layers for multiple floors.

From then on you can add the necessary details such as doors, windows, as well as kitchen appliances bathroom and living room objects. These are all editable, of course. Dragging with your finger in order to position elements is rather tedious. However, things snap to edges and corners so detailed finger movement is not a prerequisite. Changing the size and shape of rectangle objects is done much easier by selecting and then editing the values on the relative axes. Broader details are also available in the settings menu. Exterior wall thickness is one of them.

Of course all of this would be useless if it were not for a print function. Floor Plan Creator can print out your design or save it in PDF format. Unfortunately this feature is not free.

Conclusion

You can use Floor Plan Creator for some fun or to get an idea of what your house design would look like. However, the mobile platform is not the best for graphical design, so don't expect to get comfortable with using it any time soon.
